N.R. Kamath Distinguished Talk Series: Prof. Kaushik Basu’s Insightful Discourse at IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay hosted the Prof. N. R. Kamath Distinguished Talk on Feb 1, 2024, from 3.30 p.m. at VMCC, IIT Bombay campus.

This talk is part of the webinar series conducted annually by the Institute in memory of the late Prof. N.R. Kamath, former Deputy Director of IIT Bombay and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering. A highly respected educator and colleague, Prof. Kamath was widely credited for advancing the field of Chemical Engineering at the Institute as well as in India.

This year’s lecture was delivered by Prof. Kaushik Basu who is a Professor of Economics and Carl Marks Professor of International Studies at the Department of Economics and SC Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University, Ithaca and New York.

Prof. Basu spoke on Revisiting the Traveler’s Dilemma: Some Open Questions on Individual Rationality. The vibrant and engaging lecture touched upon many of the new writings on individual rationality from the perspective of economics, philosophy, and computer science. The lecture also explored and investigated newer questions and concepts in the field.

In hosting the Prof. N. R. Kamath Distinguished Talk, IIT Bombay not only paid tribute to the esteemed legacy of Prof. Kamath but also enriched its intellectual landscape.
