Faculty Alumni Network (FAN) and Distinguished Alumni Meet (DAM), USA

The month of July brings with it one of the Institute’s most important events of the year – IIT Bombay’s annual FAN and DA Meeting. The event will be held at the Northwestern University (NU) Campus in Chicago and bring together several of IIT Bombay’s accomplished alumni who are in leading positions in academia and industry in the US, together with the senior administration and faculty of IIT Bombay.

The Institute is grateful for the benevolent generosity and consistent support of IIT Bombay’s illustrious alumni who have been instrumental in its stellar growth over the years. As IIT Bombay continues to grow towards achieving excellence in teaching/research and translating them to create societal and industrial impact, there are still several strategic decisions that need to be continuously evolved to steer its trajectory towards these intended objectives.

The Faculty Alumni Network and the Annual Distinguished Alumni Meet (FAN and ADAM) are crucial touchpoints that allow the Institute to deliberate and evolve key strategic decisions that will help catapult the Institute’s brand and impact. Participants will deliberate on several strategic matters related to Institute growth as well as emerging areas of research, to nucleate collaborative programs for mutual impact, and to create opportunities and explore innovative ways to take IIT Bombay to greater heights.

The event will kick off with a welcome address by Prof. Neelesh A. Patankar, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, NU. This will be followed by addresses by Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay, and Prof. Ravindra D. Gudi, Dean, Alumni and Corporate Relations, IIT Bombay.

Provost Kathleen Hagerty, NU, and Prof. Julio Ottino, Dean of Engineering and Applied Science, NU, will address the audience next followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIT Bombay and NU. Prof. Julio Ottino, Dean of Engineering and Applied Science, NU, will then give a Plenary Talk.

The event will then host a panel discussion on The Future of Higher Education, Innovations in Engineering Education & India-US Collaboration. This will be followed by breakout sessions on Microelectronics, Sustainability and Circular Economy, Engineering Medicine, and Design in Engineering and Education.

The Annual Distinguished Alumni Meeting (ADAM) will take place next. The day will culminate with dinner where Ambassador Somnath Ghosh, from the Consul General of India in Chicago, and Prof. Barbara Snyder, former President of Case Western Reserve University, will address the attendees.
