Mr. Sharad Kumar Saraf

Mr. Sharad Kumar Saraf is an entrepreneur who has achieved an outstanding level of success in developing technology and its application, to produce and market an engineering product.

Following his IIT Bachelor’s degree in 1969, Mr. Saraf underwent a year’s Industrial Training in Germany in 1970. He promoted Technocraft Industries (India) Ltd, in 1972 as a small unit on a shoe string budget of less than 2 Lakhs. Technocraft produces and markets Drum Closures, which are a high precision and sophisticated sheet metal light engineering product used as a closing device on 200 litre Steel Drums. Currently Technocraft produces and exports Drum Closures worth approximately Rs. 40 crores to over 60 countries. Technocraft is now the second largest manufacturer of Drum Closures in the world and among the first 50 companies in the country to be awarded ISO 9002 Quality Assurance Certificate.

Mr. Saraf has successfully turned around a sick unit manufacturing Steel Tubes and has recently established a 100% export oriented unit with state-of-the-art technology for manufacture of cotton yarn.

In spite of professional involvements, Mr. Saraf was involved in starting the IIT Bombay chapter for Alumni and operated it for 7 years from 1981-1988 and is still associated with alumni activities.

Mr. Saraf has held important positions in trade and professional bodies such as Managing Committee Member – Federation of Indian Export Organisations, Ex-Vice Chairman – Engineering Export Promotion Council, etc.
