Mr. Nishant Patni

Mr. Nishant Patni is the Founder of Hello English. He obtained his BTech degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay in 2007 and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Kellogg School of Management in 2012 with a Beta Gamma Sigma honour.

His startup Culture Alley (Hello English), founded in 2011, aims to make learning accessible, affordable and effective for everyone irrespective of their age, gender, location or the language they speak. Today, it is Asia’s most downloaded education app on the play store with over 4 crore learners from more than 55,000 cities, towns and villages. The users are learning English from 22 different vernacular languages on the app to improve their employability and social confidence.

Large businesses such as Taj Hotels, Dominos, Wipro, Janalakshmi Bank, McDonalds, Shoppers Stop, Walmart and many more are using Hello English’s Enterprise solution. It helps them train their distributed workforce on communication and job relevant English skills, equipping workers to perform better on the job. Several state government have also partnered with Hello English for school and college students.

From June – September 2011, Mr. Patni worked in the Product Management of Enphase energy (KPCB backend). From November 2009 to 2010, he worked as the Assistant Manager – Corporate and Business Development in Sunborne Energy Technologies (Kholsa Ventures backend). He has also worked as the Senior Associate, The Boston Consulting Group from July 2007 – November 2009.

His start-up Hello English has been bestowed upon by numerous awards and recognitions such as:

India’s Best App Award 2017 by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), Google’s Editor’s Choice 2017, Google’s Best Apps of 2016, Most Innovative App for India (2016 and 2014) by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), Featured in Google’s Android Developer Stories 2017 – Only 5 Apps Globally were chosen to share their success stories, Recognised by The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for contribution to Ed-Tech industry and Google Play Top Developer Title in 2015.

In his personal capacity, Mr. Patni also serves on the ed-tech panel for the Internet and Mobile Association of India as well as on jury member of the Startup Council for the Government of Rajasthan.


Special Memories

Back at IIT Bombay, Nishant was the Chief Executive Editor of Insight, the campus magazine where he jointly led a team of 40. He was also an Institute mentor and the Joint Secretary of the Electrical Students Association.

I fondly cherish the timespent with incredibly-gifted friends at IIT Bombay, some of whom still remain his best friends in life”
