Ajit Jawle

Mr. Ajit Jawle is the Founder and Director of Knexir Consultants Pvt. Ltd. Mumbai. He received his B. Tech in Civil Engineering and M. Tech in Structural Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1977 and 1979, respectively. Mr. Jawle is the recipient of the Bhagwati Prize awarded by IIT Bombay in 1979.

Mr. Jawle has over 40 years of experience in design and project management for setting up industrial facilities, especially in the pharmaceutical, chemicals, and food and beverages sectors. Over the past couple of decades, Mr. Jawle has led a consultancy firm that designs and helps set up around 20-25 such facilities every year.

An active alumnus of IIT Bombay, Mr. Jawle was involved in the conceptualisation, design, and project management of the upgradation and refurbishment of the recently completed Hostel 5 (H5) project at IIT Bombay. He is currently working with Mr. Raj Nair, another IIT Bombay alumnus, in the setting up of a sterile Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Lab facility in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at IIT Bombay.

Speaking about his memories associated with IIT Bombay, Mr. Jawle said, “Everything has been so special at IIT Bombay that it is difficult for me to pick up any one specific instance.”

His hobbies include listening to music, traveling around the world, and giving back to society.

Motivation towards contribution to IIT Bombay

“I always felt that since I received a very high-quality education at a significantly subsidised cost at IIT Bombay, it is now my duty to give back what I can to the Institute. In 2019, I saw some photographs that revealed the shabby living conditions and broken-down state of Hostel 5. Those pictures and a small conversation I had with the Dean, Alumni and Corporate Relations, were the catalyst that made me realise that the Institute needs help. I felt it was our duty, as alumni, to step in and assist our alma mater. Hence, I got involved with other like-minded alumni to conceptualise the H5 project and identify a road map to improve the hostel infrastructure. The design and project management of the actual work carried out was the easier part of my involvement.”
