Prof. Indradev Samajdar appointed the TRR Mohan Chair Professor at IIT Bombay

About the Donor:

Dr. Kishore Seendripu is the current CEO, President, and Chairman of the Board of MaxLinear, Inc. He has a diverse educational background, including a B. Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from IIT Bombay and his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from U.C. Berkeley. His career spans working at prominent semiconductor companies like Rockwell International and Broadcom where he contributes to advancing radio frequency and mixed-signal systems-on-chip for wireless and broadband communications. In 2003, he co-founded MaxLinear, Inc., a leading provider of integrated communications solutions.

Dr. Seendripu established the TRR Mohan Chair with a vision to promote academic pursuit and research in the area of material sciences and microelectronics at his alma mater.

About the Appointee:

Prof. Indradev Samajdar, Professor, Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science

Professor Indradev Samajdar is currently the Prof. TRR Mohan Chair Professor at IIT Bombay.

Prof. Samajdar did his BE from Jadavpur University which was followed with his MS from the University of Texas (El Paso) and PhD from Drexel University. He was a post-doctoral fellow at KU Leuven and an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at RWTH Aachen.

Prof. Samajdar’s focus is on basic scientific research in areas of applied interest and his research interests are in the domains of Crystallographic Texture, Microstructural Engineering, and Thermomechanical Processing.

Since joining IIT Bomba in 1998, Prof. Samajdar has been involved in collaborative/sponsored research with several national laboratories (DAE, DRDO, ISRO, etc.) and industries (Tata Steel, JSW, Sandvik, etc.).

So far, he has graduated 34 PhDs and authored 245 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He also has several patents to his name and published a textbook. With support from DST-DRDO-DAE, he has established a National Facility on Texture and OIM which is of international standards.

Over the years, Prof. Samajdar has received many awards and accolades. They include:

–  H. Mathur Award of Research Excellence, IIT Bombay, 2016.
–  Institute Chair Professor (2014-2017, 2017-2020). Prof. TRR Mohan Chair (2021-Cont.).
–  Adjunct Professor: Monash University.
–  Fellow of INAE (Indian National Academy of Engineers) and EMSI (Electron Microscopy Society of India).
–  Metallurgist of the Year: IIM-NMD (Indian Institute of Metals – National Metallurgist Day), 2011.
–  MRSI (Materials Research Society of India) Medal Lecture
