IIT Bombay’s Vision Shines Bright and Sparks Enthusiasm at UK Diwali Meet

IIT Bombay, along with the IITB Alumni Association’s UK Chapter organized Mood Diwali ’23 at the Indian Gymkhana Club in Isleworth, West London.

Apart from a spirit of camaraderie, this cross-continental rendezvous was the venue for insightful interactions and discussions, even as it reaffirmed the enduring bond that unites IIT Bombay with its accomplished alumni abroad.

Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay, and Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Dean ACR, led a delegation from IIT Bombay and shared insights into the exciting developments at IIT Bombay with an audience of around 120  alumni. The delegation shared the Institute’s vision and mission and left the attendees extremely excited and gratified at the progress made by their alma mater over the years.

The gathering not only fostered a sense of community among alumni but also ignited a spark of philanthropy, with many expressing a keen interest in supporting IIT Bombay’s initiatives. The event provided a valuable networking opportunity, allowing attendees to connect with the Institute’s leadership and fellow alumni while celebrating the spirit of Diwali together marked by competitive games to vibrant Diwali attire and crowned by a spectacular fireworks display.

The delegation also visited Imperial College in London, where they met with the college’s president, Dr. Hugh R. Brady. The discussions centred around potential collaborations, with Imperial College expressing a keen interest in partnering with IIT Bombay on research and development initiatives, as well as a student exchange program.

The collaborative spirit extended to meetings with Imperial College’s Biosciences and AI faculty, as well, and showcased a shared commitment to advancing knowledge and innovation. Notably, IIT Bombay’s entrepreneurial ecosystem earned praise as the Institute secured the 17th position in Pitchbook rankings—

The UK Diwali meet and associated events underscored not only the strength of IIT Bombay’s global alumni network but also the Institute’s commitment to forging meaningful collaborations that transcend geographical boundaries.

While the echoes of laughter and shared stories may slowly fade, the bonds strengthened during this UK visit are a testament to the enduring spirit of the IIT Bombay family. The energy exchanged and collaborative seeds planted promise a future of continued growth and collective success.
