IT Hardware

Circa 2023, from conducting/attending regular classes to completing coursework to pursuing research – online digital education is the new normal. The many benefits of learning remotely include a more flexible schedule for students, getting a world-class education from one’s own home, saving substantial transportation charges and time, living and housing expenses, and more.

But for remote learning to be truly successful students need access to hardware such as computers, cell phones, laptops, and tablets, as well as reliable internet connections that would enable them to continue their education online. The transforming nature of traditional education to an online one means that having computers and other hardware items is no longer a luxury. They are a necessity for students, especially when working in revamped, state-of-the-art, laboratories.

Through the IT Hardware Fund, IIT Bombay will ensure that deserving students are provided with computer hardware and network resources that will ensure that they are able to continue their education remotely and keep up-to-date with their studies.

Your generous donation to the ‘IT Hardware’ initiative will level the playing field and provide equal learning opportunities for all our students as they move on to become leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs of the future.

Institute Development Fund (IDF)

The ‘Institute Development Fund (IDF)’ was established over 15 years ago and has played a vital role in IIT Bombay’s sustained growth. The IDF is an unrestricted fund that is used by the Institute to cater to high-priority initiatives.

IIT Bombay has consistently ranked amongst the top two universities in India (QS World Rankings) over the past many years and is committed to emerging as one of the top universities in the world by 2030. In line with this vision and mission, the Institute has set specific goals including nurturing world-class research ecosystems by building Centres of Excellence (CoE), state-of-the-art labs in emerging areas of research, micro-factories, and more; providing high-quality education to students; attracting and retaining globally competitive faculty to the Institute; and taking the lead in nation- building and creating tangible societal impact. To achieve the same, the Institute needs to focus on several critical initiatives such as infrastructural development, enhancement of research facilities, student scholarships, and more.

We urge you to contribute generously to the IDF and strengthen your alma mater’s resolve to emerge as a global leader in engineering education and research.

Young Faculty Awards (YFA)

IIT Bombay is resolved to curate a robust faculty consisting of the best teachers, scholars and innovators in their fields. The Institute is committed to recruiting inspiring faculty members pursuing trail-blazing research that can impact humanity and mankind. When brilliant minds teach, nurture, and mentor equally brilliant younger students – the cycle of brilliance continues.

In its quest to empower younger faculty members, IIT Bombay devised the Young Faculty Awards (YFA).  Joining IIT Bombay’s prestigious faculty body provides them with a vibrant and challenging ecosystem including setting up their own research labs, developing technological innovations, and contributing to nation-building. It also facilitates their smooth transition to IITB from industry and/or their stints at foreign universities, and more. Hiring these extraordinary young faculty enhances the learning experience of students at the Institute, which, in turn, results in the overall growth of IIT Bombay.

Over the past decade, the Institute, with the generous support of our alumni, has successfully attracted some of the very best faculty members to its campus. YFA gives a joining bonus of Rs. 4 lakhs (USD$ 6,600) over a period of 3 years to every new faculty hire at IIT Bombay. Incentivization has led to a significant increase in the acceptance rate of appointment letters at the Institute.

Your contributions to this program can help us hire the best and brightest minds from all over the world to the Institute.

Name Your Hostel Room

Remember the midnight chat sessions with your hostel mates? Or when you secretly huddled with your roommates and made Maggi and chai in your hostel room?

For you (and most of our alumni), the first place to visit when you return to campus is your hostel and say hello to the current inhabitant of ‘your’ hostel room. The connection that you have with your hostel room is profound and heartfelt. It was your home away from home and it was where you met your best friends and built relationships that would last a lifetime.

How would you like to leave a mark on that one place that meant so much to you?

Name Your Hostel Room is a way for you to leave your legacy on your cherished Institute by renaming the hostel room where you lived. You have the option to name it after yourself, or a loved one.

By donating Rs. 7 Lakhs ($10K) – you can have your chosen name on your hostel room for a period of 15 years. You will have the option to continue if you would like to extend the period.

You can either set up a monthly donation which will be auto deducted or make a pledge and pay it in a few instalments. The funds collected will be used for the construction of new hostels and the upkeep of existing hostels.

Name Your Hostel Room and support your hostel and your beloved alma mater!
