A third-generation army man, Lt. Gen. Dr. Panwar was awarded the prestigious ‘Vishisht Seva’ Medal by the President of India as well as a cashaward by the Department of Defence Production, in 1991 for his M.Tech. Project on ‘Data Concentrator – an operationally critical packet switching equipment’, sponsored by the Army for deployment in mobile tactical networks, performed under the guidance of Prof. S. Arunkumar, CSE Department. This resulted in the unique accomplishment of a formal transfer of technology from IIT Bombay to M/s BharatElectronics and set a perfect example of Academia-Industry partnership. He has been credited with several significant enhancements in army wide area networks aimed towards ushering in a network centric environment in the highly active operational environment in J&K, and was consequently awarded the Sena Medal(Distinguished) by the President of India in 2013.
He has received Ministry of Defence (Defence Production) 40thAnniversary of Independence – Cash Award; Chief of Army Staff andArmy Anniversary ofCommander’sCommendation Cards, and has been awarded Dr. Deepak K. Merchant Memorial Prize by IIT Bombay for the best Ph.D. Dissertation in 1992.
Lt. Gen. Dr. Panwar likes singing, playing musical instrument(Synthesizer), 3D modeling, photo processing, sketching and writing short stories etc. in his spare time. He is also fond of adventure activities like microlight flying, white water rafting and scuba diving.
