Dr. Divesh Srivastava
B.Tech., 1987 Computer Science & Engineering

Dr. Divesh Srivastava is the Head of Database Research at AT&T. He earned his B.Tech. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay in 1987 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, in 1993.

Dr. Srivastava is the head of Database Research at AT&T, where he has 25+ years of experience conducting and leading industrial research on data management that has been deployed at scale. His professional contributions include serving as Vice-President (2018-21) and as President (2022-current) of the Very Large Data Bases (VLDB) Endowment; as a member of the Computing Research Association (CRA) Board of Directors (2019-25), and co-chair of the ACM Publications Board (2021-25).

Dr. Srivastava has conducted research on a wide variety of topics in data management for three decades, focusing on developing efficient strategies to process query primitives, providing the foundations of effective data integration, data quality, data streams, semi-structured data, views, privacy, and so on. His work is distinguished by an insightful abstraction of the query needs of data-centric applications into primitives, elegant strategies to process these primitives, and their utility in deployed systems.

Dr. Srivastava is a recipient of the IEEE Technical Committee on Data Engineering (TCDE) Impact Award, 2021; and the ACM SIGMOD Contributions Award 2021. He is a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) 2011 and AT&T, 2022.
